Community Council Connections
Last week your Executive Community Council met for Term 2 to discuss, deliberate and decide on matters that affect our children, their parents and carers.
Discuss
The Council has agreed to fund a new shade sail for the interior courtyard off the library. The aim is to make this space an outdoor extension of the library learning space, and for use during lunchtimes where children are seeking a quieter space outdoors. At our last open Council meeting we discussed a suitable floor covering for the harsh concrete that currently fills the courtyard. The executive is keen to hear any ideas or suggestions from our experienced school community of landscapers and builders who would be happy to share their thoughts on an economical solution to make this a dynamic and inviting space for our kids. If you can spare a little time and thought, please contact Anne Staines who is happy to welcome your insights.
The 50th Anniversary activities are currently being scoped by Josie Lanzetta and the team, with a range of amazing ideas shortlisted for the committee to plot into a calendar for next year. The intent is to combine a simple list of activities engaging our children, teachers, parents/ carers and SHPS alumni, all with the theme of ‘back to the future’. Ideas include a trivia night, dinner dance, open school and commemorative mass, an ‘a-thon’ for the kids (think spelling bee or similar!), yearbook, themed all school disco and more. It will be a fun and exciting time to celebrate, with just the right amount of activity throughout the year to keep you engaged!
Deliberate

Decide
Fresh Tastes is a campaign to better educate and drive healthier food choices among children. Anne Staines has agreed to restimulate the program and share some ideas at our next Open Council meeting in July.
Parent reps are putting forward suggestions for improvement through our exec parent rep Sharon Poole. One request will be resolved by Anne Staines and Kerry Wode who will arrange a space for Year 1 to play soccer during lunchtimes. It was also raised about awards on Friday afternoons are hard for some parents and carers to attend. Friday afternoons are working well for the children, especially with the combination of class assemblies. If you are concerned you will miss your child’s award announcement, please contact Anne Staines via the front office and your child’s award can be held until Monday morning assembly if that suits you! It’s great to hear the opinions that matter from the cohorts/classes being raised through this avenue for resolution!
If you have a suggestion to raise or idea to share, please contact the SHPS Community Council via the front office, attention Sarah Lloyd.
