Principal's News

Dear Community

Starting tomorrow at 1 pm, our students will re-enact the Holy Week events. Kinder starts tomorrow with Palm Sunday, which occurs this weekend and begins Holy Week. Next Thursday, Years 5 and 6 will re-enact the Last Supper, the story of Jesus’ death on the cross and the triumph of the Risen Christ on Easter Sunday. All these liturgies commence at 1 pm next Thursday.

Holy Week is the most important period in the Church year though, given our commercial world, we might be forgiven for thinking it to be somewhat left in the wake of Christmas.  This is particularly so when we compare the joy of Christmas with the events of Holy Week where the story of betrayal, suffering and death dominates events.  Only at the end of the week when we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus that the focus turns to joy and hope.

God’s love for each one of us was perfected in the suffering and death of his son Jesus Christ.  The death of Jesus was one of violence and cruelty – betrayed by a friend, deserted by followers and rejected by those he had tried to help.  Yet we realise that God sent Jesus into the world to be the saviour of all, and by sharing in the human condition in its most distressing form, God’s love is manifest in a way which leads us to eternal life.

As our classes follow the events of suffering, death and resurrection during this upcoming Holy Week we look for them to recognise the love God has for us, in the knowledge that no matter how great our suffering or distress may be, God understands and is there as our silent companion.  In Jesus, we are given not the end but the path to eternal life.

Swimming Carnival

What a fantastic day we had today! A huge thanks to Mrs Laura Stumbles who coordinated her second major carnival in two weeks and ensured it was highly successful. Thanks to staff and parents for assisting too- we cannot do it without you! Well done everyone!

Working Bee Tomorrow from 3:30 pm to 6 pm

A reminder please that we have our Working Bee tomorrow afternoon. We have 5 cubic metres of sand being delivered to top up our sandpits for our children and need some help (please bring shovels and wheelbarrows!). We also have hedge trimming, weeding, blowing and whipper-snipping fence lines so please bring along relevant tools for this too. I will shout a sausage sizzle and drinks at the conclusion so please bring the kids to help too! Thank you!!

Boys at Sacred Heart

Thanks to the parents who attended our ‘Boys at Sacred Heart’ Meeting last night. Traditionally we have parents who have boys who leave Sacred Heart at the end of Year 3, parents who are committed to a K-6 Co-Educational Primary School experience at Sacred Heart and parents who are unsure. We had at least 12 parents in attendance, and it was a great discussion. I understand not every parent could attend and am more than happy to run another session or have a separate conversation if parents wish. If any parent wishes to chat with me, please email me or contact the Front Office.

In faith and partnership,
