Principal's News

Dear Community,

I hope you had a great long weekend and reflected on Reconciliation Day and its significance in our country. Reconciliation Day is a time for all Australians to come together, acknowledge the past, and foster a future based on mutual respect and understanding between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.

At Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, we are committed to embracing the values of reconciliation and integrating them into our daily lives and educational practices. Our faith teaches us the importance of forgiveness, compassion, and the dignity of every person; these principles are at the heart of the reconciliation process. Let us take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation and to pray for unity, healing, and justice for all.

Students will attend an incursion tomorrow morning celebrating indigenous culture.

Feast of Mary Help of Christians

Last Friday was the Feast of Mary, Help of Christians, the patroness of Australia and our Parish: Mary Help of Christians Parish. Mary has always been a special person, a model of motherhood, and a model for all women. It was also our Parish Priest, Fr Emil’s birthday last Friday—Happy Birthday, Fr Emil!

Enrolment Time ends this Friday.

This is just a reminder to families that enrolment forms for Kindergarten 2025 are due by tomorrow, Friday, 31 May (siblings included). If you know families wishing to enrol for 2025, please encourage them to contact me or visit our website. We already have a good number returned for Kindergarten 2025, and places may fill this time.

Disco

We look forward to our student disco tomorrow, 31 May, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the school hall. The cost is $7 and covers a snack, a drink, and entry into the disco.

For the safety and security of every child, no child may arrive or leave without a parent or responsible adult in attendance. All parents/guardians are to park in the carpark and bring their child to the check-in desk in the hall foyer.

Sacred Heart Feast Day

Our Feast Day will be held next Friday. You are most welcome to join us for mass in the Church at 9:30 am. There will be some fun activities in classes and a special lunch.

Headlice

We would like to inform you that a few cases of head lice have been reported at our school. While head lice are a common issue among school-aged children, we want to ensure we handle this situation promptly and effectively to prevent further spread. We kindly ask all parents to check their children's hair regularly for any signs of lice and to take immediate action if any are found. Treatment should include using a lice comb and an appropriate lice treatment shampoo and washing bedding and clothing in hot water. Reminding children not to share hats, brushes, or other personal items is also essential. Your cooperation is crucial in keeping our school environment healthy and lice-free. Thank you for your attention and support in this matter.

Hats off next week!

As part of our commitment to the ACT Sunsmart policy, we remind everyone that students are not required to wear hats outdoors during June and July. This "Hats Off" period aligns with the guidelines provided by the Cancer Council ACT, reflecting the lower UV levels during winter.

In faith and partnership,
