Principals Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

National Children’s Week

Live so that

when your

children

think of fairness, caring

and integrity

they think of you

This week the nation celebrates Children’s week, a time to focus on the rights of children in the world.

The theme of Children’s Week 2019 is the right of every child to good health and wellbeing.

Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states that all children are entitled to “the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health and to facilities for the treatment of illness and rehabilitation of health”.  The right to health is particularly important for children, because their developing brains and bodies can make them more vulnerable to certain health conditions. If they are not healthy, children face barriers to claiming many other basic rights – like being able to learn, play and reach their full potential, as they grow into adults.

    Mission Month

This weekend we celebrated Mission Sunday in all our Churches. As Christians, we all have a mission: to share God’s love with the whole world. No one is too young or too small to take part. Through Mission, children everywhere can pray for and share with one another in a unique exchange of love and friendship. By praying for one another and sharing what we have, we belong to God’s worldwide family. Pope Francis has designated October 2019 an Extraordinary Month of Mission. Its objective: to renew the efforts of the entire Church to share God’s love around the world.

On Friday afternoon at our whole school Assembly Mr Mitchell and 3/4 W introduced our Term 4 value Compassion and brought to our attention our role during this Month of the Missions. The children combined these two ideas beautifully and invited us to go out into the world and make a difference.

Take some time to talk as a family about the ways in which each one of us can make a difference in the world by small acts of kindness and prayer.

As part of the Month of Missions Stage 3 students have been leading classes in praying the Rosary.
