Staff Spotlight Mrs Evenden
Name: Simonne Evenden
Teaching: 1 White
I’ve been teaching a very long time. I can’t put a number to it because then my Year 1’s will do the maths and work out how old I am. Which leads me to a funny quote from a little girl in my class this year. She said, “Mrs Evenden you were 21 last year! You can’t be 21, you have a son who is 21!” They are super cute!
I was born in Hobart, Tasmania but only lived there a year. A lot of my extended family live there. I love to visit my nan in Hobart who is 93! She is my bestie!
I taught in Eden in NSW before Sacred Heart. I could see whales in the bay from my desk. It was very special. I love Sacred Heart so much that I have never left. My 3 children went to Sacred Heart too.
My husband Dave and I have 3 beautiful children. Jack is 21 and at University in Canberra, Jorja is 17 and at St Clares and Tom is 11 and is at Marist. They certainly keep us busy but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We love to hang out at the coast over the summer and love movie nights together.
My favourite thing to do is to watch my children play sport. Jack plays rugby for Vikings and Tom for Marist. They both played league with the Rams. All 3 children have played ACT Oztag and now Tom plays Touch. Jorja keeps us busy with netball as well. Not just one netball team, but 3!
My favourite team to watch is The Raiders. Our family loves to all get together to watch them play. Going to the grand final in Sydney was a highlight this year.
I love going to concerts. I have seen Pink 3 times. I also enjoy going to the theatre. One of my favourites is Les Mis.
If I could be a superhero I’d be Wonder Woman. I was always in awe of her. I would also like to be Jeannie from I dream of Jeannie (not that I would want to wear her suit now but as a child I loved it!) Samantha from Bewitched would also be fun. All were favourites as a child.
When I play a game Fact or Fib with my class they are always surprised to hear that I started school in Malaysia. They don’t believe that I caught a ferry to school in Kindergarten, so I guess that’s an unknown fact from my childhood. I was an Air Force child which meant we moved every 2 years and lived on RAAF bases. A lot of fun when you are growing up. So many other children to play with and so much to do.
Chocolate or hot chips. Easy- chilli chocolate for me! Those that know me well know that I have chilli in almost everything. The hotter, the better! Ramas is my favourite restaurant.
The last two books I read were by Liane Moriatey. I wish I had time to read more but holiday reading is all I can manage right now.
If I could go anywhere in the world it would be back to New York with my family. We went last year and had so much fun. Next would be to Greece and Croatia but without my children. I think this would be a good one for my husband and me. That would be nice, particularly the Greek islands.
I certainly enjoy working with all the lovely staff, children and parents at Sacred Heart. I have life long friendships that I have developed over the years that I treasure.
