PRINCIPAL
Lent is a 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It's a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. During Lent, we seek the Lord in prayer; we serve by works of love; and we practise self-control through fasting. We are called to a true inner conversion of heart as we seek to follow Christ's will more faithfully.
Many know of the tradition of abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent, but we are also called to practise self-discipline and fast in other ways throughout the season. In addition, the giving of alms is one way to share God's gifts—not only through the distribution of money, but through the sharing of our time and talents.
In Lent, the baptised are called to renew their baptismal commitment.
Community Council
On Tuesday 16th February, the 2021 Annual General Meeting of the Community Council was held. It was lovely to see an equal mix of returning families and those who are new to our community. We would encourage everyone to come along to Open Meetings as they are a fantastic way of connecting with our community and understanding more about our school.
At the AGM, all positions on the executive were declared vacant, nominations received and votes taken. I am pleased to advise that Jac Hrast has agreed to be our Deputy Chair and Elsa Hietbrink has agreed to take on the role of Secretary. In addition, Danielle Hartnett has agreed to sit on the Council’s Fundraising sub-committee.
The Council is still accepting nominations for the roles of:
- Chair
- Treasurer and
- Parent Rep Coordinator.
If you are interested in taking on one of these roles or would like to find out more about them, please contact the Front Office or email Jac.
The meeting also discussed the plans for the 50+1 Celebration Year, fundraising opportunities and priorities for 2021, and the School’s 2021 Annual Improvement Plan. Attendees also discussed possible ways to deliver Maths and Literacy information sessions to parents and carers, with the idea that some of our adaptions from the period of at-home learning during 2020, such as short videos on learning approaches or games, could be used in future. The school will provide more details on this shortly.
The next Open Meeting will be held on 11th May and will be hosted on Zoom. A link will be provided via SZapp closer to the time and we encourage you all to attend.
Potential fundraising events were discussed, and ideas shared. We will shortly be calling for people who are able to join a fundraising sub-committee for events in 2021 and 2022.
We talked about the important role that our Parent Representatives will have this year as we reconnect and have the opportunity to gather in smaller groups.
