Harmony Week 15-19th March

Harmony Day Poster 2021

During Week 7 we invite families to contribute to our Harmony Week activities.

  • Come into class and teach the students a song, dance or game which your family enjoys from your cultural heritage. Or maybe your child is confident enough to share it with their class!
  • Share with the teacher a piece of music/song which has cultural significance for your family. A photo of your family gathering is welcome too.

On Monday 15th March every child is invited to wear an item of orange clothing or an accessory to symbolise living in harmony in our multi-cultural Australia. If your child has clothing that reflects your family’s cultural heritage, we invite them to wear it for the day. Families can join our outdoor morning assembly at 9am.

We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through your prayer, fasting and almsgiving by supporting Project Compassion. Each family should have received a Project Compassion box for their donations. These may be returned to school at any time until the end of term.

Saint Oscar Romero is our inspiration for Project Compassion 2021, so in his words let’s “Aspire not to have more, but to be more.”

Easter Raffle

easter_raffle_1.jpg

Over the last couple of years, we have held an Easter raffle.  It has been very successful in the past where we have had over 35 baskets up for prizes! It has brought so much joy to our children and families, so we have decided to do it again!

We will draw the tickets at the afternoon assembly on the 26th March, the week before Easter and Term 1 ends.

What do you need to do:-

We are asking every family to donate an egg/or eggs, or anything that resembles Easter to you (colouring books, stickers) so that we can put together lots of baskets for prizes. The more goodies we get, the more prizes there will be for the children to win!

Please start bringing items to the front office up until the 22nd March.

Baskets will be placed at the front office for collections.

We will be sending raffle tickets home to each household for purchase of $1 per ticket. (There is a separate note attached to the tickets for further information.) Please return the tickets to school with the correct money and tickets completed.

Tickets can be sold up until the 25th March.

If you would like to purchase more than the 10 provided, please contact the front office for more. All the money we raise will go towards new school equipment and upgrading play spaces.

It is an exciting, fun time for the children in our community.

 Happy Hunting!!

NAPLAN Testing in Years 3 and 5

NAPLAN testing dates for 2021 are between 11-21st May.

We are beginning to prepare for NAPLAN testing. Children in Years 3 and 5 will practise question types and ensure their devices are ready over the coming weeks. Some classes will participate in the Practice Test on March 25th.

Students in Year 3 and 5 were given a note. Please refer to the note or SZapp notice to assist your child to be ready for these mandatory tests. Information about the tests and examples of the questions can be found on the ACARA website. https://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/parent-carer-support/.

Thinkers

THINKER_PIC.jpg

Thinkers stay on task, persisting even when the learning challenges them. They are flexible, exploring different ways to achieve a goal and adapting to circumstances. They are open-minded to consider other points of view, and to compromise. Developing these asses helps us to make sense of the of signs, symbols and events around us.

‘We can think logically, creatively and reflectively. We think about how we use our thinking and have different strategies for making our thinking visible to others. We remain open-minded and know that our thinking changes over time’. (K. Murdoch ‘Power of Inquiry’ p98)

Examples of times when we may teach the assets of being a thinker may include:

  • Staying focused
  • Thinking of and sharing a question
  • Thinking about the potential consequences of actions
  • Thinking back over our learning and identifying ways to improve
  • Considering how beliefs and culture can influence peoples’ thinking
  • Planning ahead and thinking through a task before we begin it
  • Applying feedback

Kinder and Stage 1 will usually only explore being ‘persistent’. Stage 2 and 3 will develop language about all three – persistent, flexible, open-minded.
