REMINDERS AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION
COVID-19
From 5pm 12th August the ACT is in lockdown.
13-16th August 2021 - Pupil free days in preparation for Remote Learning
17th August - Remote Learning begins.
Supervision will be provided for children of parents/carers who are unable to provide care for their children and all vulnerable children. An SZapp notice/email was sent today requesting information about whether your child needs supervision at school during the Lock Down. Please advise us if this is the case.
Please see emails/SZapp notices from the school and personalised emails from your child(ren)'s teachers.
Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn have in place a 'COVID-19 Information and Updates' webpage. Please visit https://cg.catholic.edu.au/covid-19-information-and-updates/. It contains all the latest advice to ACT Catholic Schools and links to necessary ACT government pages and services.
Staff at SHPS had been preparing for the possibility of a lockdown. Catholic schools will have 2 pupil free days, Friday 13th August and Monday 16th August.
To ensure a smooth transition, class teachers would like families to know:
- The list of online resources, including usernames and passwords, which classes currently use. These were sent home with the pack yesterday, or via email from the class teacher today (Friday)
- A mixture of tasks will be set for online and offline learning. A pack of items was sent home from the school for each child yesterday.
- There will be links to video guides for our online platforms, such as MS Teams and Google Classroom and our other online curriculum sites. (These will be available via our website on Monday.)
What to do?
Look for an email from your child(ren)s teachers with all the details. If you do not receive an email by Friday afternoon, please contact the teacher via email ASAP.

YMCA 2021 Spring Vacation Care
We are happy to announce that the YMCA will be running a school holiday program in September.
Hats On
It’s August - and that means hats on again for all ACT primary schools and early childhood centres because daily UV levels are once again on the rise in Canberra to 3 and above.
Drive Through
To assist in making the Drive-Through efficient for all -
Please make sure
- You have a family name sign for display in the windscreen (we often cannot see your face through the tinted screens). If you need a new one please contact the Front Office.
- You turn left onto Hodgson street as you exit
- All people involved in regular pick-ups know what is expected
- You don’t get out of your car (if your child needs to enter the car on the other side because of younger siblings open the passenger seat window to communicate with the person on duty if needed)
A Snack for Recess
We have noticed that there are some children have no food for recess. Please ensure your children are aware of what they could eat for recess. If your child eats everything at lunchtime - 11.45am to 3.15pm is a long time for them to go without food.
Does your child/ren have a drink bottle?
Whilst the weather has been very cold the children need to have plenty of water to drink each day. To align with our sustainability efforts, it would be great if each child had a water bottle that they can refill as needed.
Tournament of the Minds
Mrs Wode and Mrs Filardo will contact families via email when we are advised about how the competition is to proceed.
Sport Days for Week 5 (children attending school)
- Tuesday and Thursday
Cooking with Mrs Kane
Mrs Kane had 4 Navy this week in the Maker Space teaching them how to make Pizza Scrolls.
Stage 2
Today, Stage 2 had the privilege of speaking with Gabbie Foster who works for the Capital Airport group. She came to speak with the students about 'how to create a suburb' as she is currently working on the new Denman Prospect land development. The students, as part of their current conceptual inquiry unit will be creating a new suburb in Canberra and Gabbie was able to give them lots of information into how this process is undertaken.
We look forward to seeing what the students come up with!
Mrs Barrenger's Mailbox
Sacred Heart School Captains have thought of the idea for a mailbox. The mailbox is for students of Sacred Heart to write down their feelings for one of the staff members, Mrs Barrenger (Mrs B). Students can be open and can share their feelings to Mrs Barrenger. This gives the opportunity for students to talk to Mrs Barrenger even when she’s not here, so she can come to see students who need to have a person to talk to. (Alessia & Shivon)
