Dear Parents and Carers,
It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through Term 4. This Sunday is set aside as a day to celebrate and show kindness to others in what we say and do. I would encourage you to have a little chat with your family about something extra you could do over the weekend to participate in this simple but worthwhile opportunity to nurture the hearts, minds and spirits of others.
It has been wonderful to have parents back in the school with special events like kindergarten orientation, open classrooms, assemblies and performances.
Piano Recital last Friday
We experienced a real treat, at last Friday’s piano recital, where the students of our private piano teachers entertained us in two seperate performances. It was a wonderful opportunity for these children to share their talents with an audience that included the wider community.
Choir Performance
On Friday afternoon, at the whole school assembly we heard our school choir sing for the first time since COVID restrictions. They charmed the audience with their beautiful voices. We look forward to hearing them at the Twilight Fair and the local christmas carols performance.
Deepest Sympathy
We offer our deepest sympathy to Mrs Iles this week on the passing of her brother.
We extend our deepest sympathy to Mrs Miller on the passing of her uncle.
We take a moment to give thanks and gratitude for the gift of Mrs Pat Whitelum, whose life we will celebrate in the Sacred Heart Church tomorrow afternoon. Mrs Whitelum was a member of the Sacred Heart Staff from 1981 to 2009, working as a Classroom Teacher, Assistant Principal and Acting Principal during this time. She was a great teacher and a generous human being who was gentle and kind in relationship.
We know that you will keep these families in your prayers over the coming weeks.
Take care and keep safe
Safety Concerns
We ask our community to be mindful of two areas which have had incidents in the past weeks. We need parents and carers to follow these directions so that traffic clears more quickly, visibility is improved during peak times and so everyone is safe, slow and calm.
- Main carpark - You must turn left out of the school driveway at busy morning and afternoon times.
- Murphy street - Park along the school side, facing up the hill, or in the side streets. Do not park on the residential side of Murphy St.
Twilight Fair - 2 weeks to go
Your eldest child will bring home today a cake box for you to consider contributing to our bake sale. All the details are in the separate COMPASS notice.
Keep the raffle tickets coming back. If you pay by Qkr! please write your name on the booklet to make it easier for us to track. Thanks for all the support.
Next week we will provide information about how to pre-purchase a ‘Fair Star’ for the kids and your Inflatables ride pass.
Two huge reminders -
- Remember to sign up to volunteer some time on a stall. Follow this link, contact the office or see a committee member. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e48a9a62da4f5c52-twilight
- Prepare to bring cash with you. We will have limited eftpos facilities. We are hearing from some students about jobs they are doing around the house to earn pocket money for the fair. What a great idea. Win win!
Yours faithfully,

Ride Safely to School Week
Week 6 at Sacred Heart will be Ride Safely to School Week. We will be encouraging all students and parents to ride to school each day next week (lycra and Strava memberships are purely optional!). Friday is the big one where we will have a whole school ride to school morning with fruit and healthy snacks on arrival and some pumped-up tunes to welcome our groups to school.
We will have teachers stationed at our four key locations from 8:15am and will ride as a group to school from 8:25am. Please see the map below for meeting locations - a large copy of this map is also attached to the side of the bike cage at school.
All participants will go in a raffle draw to be held at the assembly in the afternoon.
Happy riding and don't forget your helmets!
School Sport
It’s a fantastic time of year to start thinking about how students can make the transition from school sport to sporting clubs with many local sporting organisations now taking registrations for summer. To promote club sport to families in our SHPS community please find below the link to help students make the move from school to club sport. We encourage you to use the Sporting Schools Find a Club page, where parents can explore more than 35 sports and find a club in their local area for your child to get engaged and start a lifelong love of sport. With so many options, there is something for everyone!
Community Council
We have had a talented and enthusiastic Community Council during 2022. On behalf of our school community we would like to thank our council members for their work during the year. For many of them it was their first year on the Community Council Executive and we welcome them to consider being a part of the council again next year.
The dates for community council meetings for 2023 are below. The first meeting each year is our Open AGM. All members of the school community are invited to attend. During this meeting we will be inviting people to nominate to fill positions on the Council Executive. A list of these positions is below. Commitment for any position on the Council Executive is a maximum of two meetings per term. We invite you to consider how you could be involved in the council for 2023. If you wish to discuss any of these positions, please contact Anne Staines or a current member of our Community Council.
Our Community Council meets across the year. The dates planned for 2023 are:
Open meetings (1x semester, Week 3 of Terms 1 and 3)
Tuesday 13 Feb, 6pm, at school
Tuesday 1 August, 7pm, online
Exec Council meetings (4x year, Week 5 of each term)
Tuesday 28 Feb, 7pm, online
Tuesday 22 May, 7pm, online
Tuesday 14 August, 7pm, online
Tuesday 7 November, 7pm, dinner
Council Chair
Our Council Chair liaises with the principal, often planning the agenda with them in the week before a council meeting. They chair the meetings of the CC. They coordinate any communication with the wider community following the meeting, liaising with the School Executive and the Communications Officer to publish items.
Deputy Chair
The Deputy supports the Chair. They step in to chair the meeting if the Chair is away.
Secretary
The Secretary takes the minutes for each meeting. They are responsible for sending the minutes out to committee members and saving them into the Community Council shared google drive.
Treasurer
The treasurer role provides transparency of the school financial position for Parents/Carers. The Treasurer liaises with our front office team for the finance report information, generally 1-2 weeks before each meeting. They prepare the finance report with our principal for the meeting and present it to the CC.
Parent Reps Coordinator
This role involves communicating with the team of Parent Representatives. They are the liaison between Parent Reps and Council.
Communications Officer (new role 2023)
Our Communication Officer will be an important link between the CC and our community. They will take the lead role in the administration of the Sacred Heart Parent & Carers Facebook page. They will work with other council members to prepare a meeting summary for publication in the school newsletter and assist as required with school promotion materials.

Semester 2 Reporting
Reports
Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn has advised schools to provide grades only on the Semester 2 student academic reports. Reports will be available to view and download from the COMPASS platform on Friday 2nd December.
The Parent/Teacher Interviews
Staff at Sacred Heart will be contacting parents and carers individually if we would like to have an end-of-year conversation with you in addition to the report. Parents are welcome to email their child’s teacher if you would like to request an interview over the next few weeks.
Class Placement Considerations for 2023
Teachers are beginning to consider class groupings for 2023. We know your children well and look to balance the classes in a variety of ways. Please ensure you have sent through to Mrs Anne Staines any considerations regarding placement of children for 2023 by 5.00pm on Monday 21st November. It is important to remind us of any historical, academic, social or new considerations – this does include children having had the same classroom teacher for two years.
Janitor needed
We also have the casual position of Janitor vacant. If you know of anyone who could fill this position of four hours each week, please ask them to contact Anne or Kerry for further information.
Remembrance Day Friday 11th November
On Friday 11th November, Sacred Heart will gather at the Remembrance Garden (located at the side of the Church near the top carpark) to observe a minutes silence in remembrance of our service men and women past and present. We warmly invite members of our school community to join us from 10:45am.
Every year the Sacred Heart community support the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal with donations of food for Christmas Hampers
In a few weeks, we will be asking students to bring in donations into school. The Mini Vinnies students will be purchasing gifts for the Christmas Appeal from the money raised last term with Pyjama Day.
New Parent Mix and Mingle - extended to parents in current Kindergarten and Year 1, who missed out due to COVID.
We invite parents from our current Kinder and Year 1 classes, to join the Kinder parents of 2023 at our welcome to Sacred Heart Mix & Mingle. It is a great opportunity to meet other parents and connect with our community. Staff, Community Council members and Parent Reps are all invited to attend. This is an adult only event.
