Dear Parents and Carers,
A Simple Prayer of Gratitude
Thank you, Lord, for the blessings you have bestowed on my life. You have provided me with more than I could ever have imagined. You have surrounded me with people who always look out for me. You have given me family and friends who bless me every day with kind words and actions.
Gratitude
This term we are highlighting gratitude and practising ways to show this virtue in our life. To help families to be a part of this journey I plan to share a prayer and some strategies each week through our school newsletter
‘Think Outside the Box’. If you want to make the most out of opportunities to flex your gratitude muscles, you must creatively look for new situations and circumstances in which to feel grateful.
I have been ‘thinking outside the box’ by taking a walk through our wonderful city finding things of beauty to photograph.
World Teachers' Day
We Celebrated World Teachers’ Day on Friday 27 October. It was a chance to recognise and celebrate the teachers who are making, or have made, an impact in our lives. It was a chance to say, ‘thank you’, whether you're a current student, have children in school, or have been out of school for many years. Thank you for your support.
Thank you also to the Community Council for funding our delicious staff lunch.
2024 Kindergarten
We welcomed our 2024 Kindergarten students to Sacred Heart on Wednesday morning. Many of them had such a lovely morning and they were keen to stay. They met their Year 5 buddies who had written them an individual card and presented them with the traditional SHPS bear. These events are always a delight.
Take care and keep safe
Congratulations to our prize winners from the Colour Fun Run. We are hoping to bring you a full wrap-up next week.
Community Council Open Meeting tonight at 5.45-6.30pm. Parents and Carers are welcome to join us in the 3 Red classroom. We are invited to stay and join us for the 'New Parent Mix & Mingle'.
Staffing News
Kinder Red: We farewelled Mrs Meg Baldry last week as she prepares for the birth of her first child. Mrs Claire Imlach has joined our staff for the rest of the year, very ably stepping in to teach Kinder Red. This is never an easy thing to do, with nativity and the busy end of year. Thanks to Claire, the kinder teaching team and parents for helping to make the transition so smooth.
STEAM teachers: We welcome Mr Luke Morwitch (Thursday)and Mrs Christina Hill (Wednesday) to teach our STEAM classes for most of the weeks until the end of the year. Luke and Christina are regular relief teachers at Sacred Heart, whom the children are very familiar with.
Yours faithfully,

Afternoon Pick-Up Reminders
If using the Murphy Street pick-up, parents need to park and walk across to collect your child from the gateway. When you are near the gateway, we ask your child to raise their hand, so the duty teacher can safely let them walk to you.
Drive-through at the front of the school works much more efficiently if you have your surname displayed in the windscreen.
Drink Bottles
Please ensure your child/children have a drink bottle each day. Please help us be more sustainable.
Depending on the class group, children may have their water bottle in a tub, their bag or on their desk. Either way, we encourage children to drink at any time during the day and we regularly remind them to do so.

Emilia B and Olive W in Year 3 have just started waterpolo at Vikings Tuggeranong, and competed in their first game on the weekend. Both girls loved the experience and are hopeful for more team mates from Sacred Heart to join. Waterpolo is a great sport, incredible for fitness, and the Vikings Club are keen for their players to just have FUN! If you’re interested in joining it’s not too late!
Year 1W were ready for The Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, looking very smart in their fascinators and ties.
Stage 2 started bikes as one of their sports for Term 4. Duncan from Trek Bicycle joined them on their first lesson. He did mini-services on all the bikes that were at school and left little notes for parents to let them know what needs to be repaired on the bike.
Duncan also gave us some prizes for our raffle, when we do our next ‘Ride and Walk to School day’. We thank Trek for their continued support of our Sacred Heart Community. ❤️
Constable Kenny Visit
On Monday, the students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 had a visit from Constable Koala. He spoke to the children about the ways they can use technology and stay safe whilst online. Some of his top tips were:
- Always ask an adult for permission before going on the internet.
- Do not tell anyone on the internet your name, what school you go to or where you live.
- Stay close to a trusted adult, like your parents or teacher, when you are on the internet and ask them for help if you are unsure about something.
- Visit thinkuknow.org.au for more information and safety tips.
ACT Fire Education Visit
Kindergarten had a visit from the Phillip Fire Station on Tuesday. The Fire Education program is designed to ensure children are equipped with the skills and knowledge around basic fire safety.
The students watched videos and participated in activities designed to help them feel confident, safe and prepared in the event of a fire emergency.
Science experiments in action. Year 1 seeing how far a balloon can travel along a piece of string and considering what changes need to be made to add more force therefore more distance.
We are loving science at Sacred Heart!
Year 1 have had a very busy start to the term! Mrs Cambridge, the Teaching & Learning Officer for Indigenous Education, visited our classrooms. Mrs Cambridge taught the children about the Simple Machines the indigenous people used many years ago. She also taught the children about Dadirri, an Aboriginal form of prayer and spirituality.
This term in Year 6, a small group of students accepted an extension opportunity in mathematics to construct a kite using quadratic equations. Using wooden dowel, plastic bags, and coloured tape / rainbow string, students measured and tested their kites for aerodynamics and strength.
Congratulations to the following students celebrating their birthday
Braxton G, Rinzin P, Lydia A, Samuel W, Isabelle A, Sophie E.
Awards will be presented during the school assembly on Friday from 2.40pm.
