Dear Community,
As we approach the end of a fast-paced and dynamic third term, it’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown. With the AFL Grand Final upon us this weekend, we can draw a fitting comparison between this point in the school year and the third quarter of a game—the time immediately following half-time that often proves crucial in determining the outcome. Like in sport, the third term has set a strong foundation, shaping the momentum that will carry us into the final term. I am confident that our collective efforts have put us on a great path as we head towards the finish line of 2024.
This is a reminder that all students are encouraged to wear their footy colours or sports team uniforms to school tomorrow. Please bring a $2 coin or a lucky dip prize (stationery, hair accessories, individually wrapped lollies, stickers, etc.)
Go the swans!
First Day of Term 4
This is a friendly reminder that school resumes for all students on Monday, October 14th. While ACT Public Schools will observe a pupil-free day, Sacred Heart will be back in full swing—so please don’t be caught off guard! We look forward to welcoming you and the students back, refreshed and ready for the final term.
Summer Uniform
As we transition into Term 4, switching to the summer uniform is also time. Please take advantage of the upcoming holidays to ensure that all students are prepared and dressed according to our uniform policy from day one. We appreciate your support in maintaining the high standards that represent our school so well.
Tournament of Minds
Congratulations to our ‘Chocolate Brains’ team for their fantastic effort at the ACT Tournament of Minds Final last Sunday. Although they didn’t progress to the next round, we are incredibly proud of their hard work, creativity, and teamwork. Thank you to Mrs. Wode, Ms. Filardo, and Mr. Fulton for their dedication in guiding the team. Well done to all involved—your efforts have made the school proud!
Good Luck to Our Netball Team
We also want to wish the very best of luck to our netball team, the Year 5/6 Cyclones, who will represent Sacred Heart in their grand final on Saturday at Arawang. We know they will play with heart and determination—go, team!
Staffing News
We are thrilled to welcome back Mrs. Meg Baldry, who will be returning from maternity leave at the beginning of Term 4. We are excited to have her rejoin our team and look forward to seeing her back in action.
Congratulations to our Year 1 teacher, May Schneider, who got married last Saturday! We wish May and her new husband all the happiness in this exciting new chapter of their lives. May's Sacred Heart family is thrilled for her, and we were delighted to see her back this week and hear about their special day.
We wish our Coordinator, Mr. Matthew Maloney, all the best as he prepares for his wedding this Saturday. This is an extraordinary time for Matthew and his fiancée, and we know it will be a memorable and joy-filled celebration. Congratulations and prayers, Matthew, as you embark on this wonderful journey together!
Building Update
The perimeter fence is nearing completion and should be finished during the holidays. It’s already looking fantastic and will enhance our school's security and appearance.
Additionally, internal painting will take place over the holiday break, refreshing and brightening our learning spaces. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to a refreshed environment next term!
As we move into the year's final stretch, I thank you all for your dedication and hard work. Let’s continue to support each other and our outstanding students as we look forward to a strong and successful finish to the year.
In faith and partnership,
David Austin

- Term 4 Sport Day will be sent as a Compass push before the term starts.
At the start of Term 4 students will start wearing their summer uniform.
Mr Austin would prefer if children did remain in the correct uniform until that time, but understands that the change in weather may affect some children. If they are struggling with the heat/cold, by all means swap between the long and short. We usually give a two week buffer for change of seasons at the end or beginning of each term.
Please follow the LINK for the Uniform Policy on our website.
Mrs Tracey Kane opens the Clothing Pool for fittings on Wednesday and Friday mornings 8.30-9.30am. Orders can be placed online via Qkr! with the items delivered to your child's classroom once the order is processed. Hats can be purchased through our office at any time. A reminder that bags, including library bags can also be ordered.

ACT Athletics
On Tuesday 17th August, 3 students represented Sacred Heart at the ACT Athletics Championships held at Woden Athletics Track. Joey F competed in the 800m, placing 13th. Ella B competed in the Discus and Shot Put with a 5th and 9th respectively. An extra congratulations is needed for Aleiya T, who competed in 6 events over the day. She had 2 outstanding results, she WON her 100m (she is the fastest girl in her age group across the ACT) and placed 2nd in the 200m.
Aleyia has now been selected to represent the ACT at the Australian Track and Field Championships late November.
Netball Season Wrap-Up
What a fantastic season our junior netballers have had this winter. Our Year 2 team, the Bizzards, joined the Sacred Heart netball family for their first season and took to the courts with courage and a super positive attitude. Coached by the lovely Jasmine, their netty skills were being expertly developed.
Our Year 3/4 Lightning Bolts girls honed their skills this season and developed into a team. The focus of the season was on teamwork and specific position skill development under the eye of coach Ella and consultant coach Jasmine. A massive shout out to Amy, the manager extraordinaire, who organised both junior teams with expertise, ensuring parents knew the what, where, when, and who of every frosty Saturday game.
The 5/6 Netball Team is playing in their Grand Final this Saturday. For the Year 6 students, this will be their final game playing for Sacred Heart. Thank you to all the parents who have supported them over the years. We wish you all the best in your game. If you would like to support them, they play at 11 a.m. at the Arawang Netball Courts. Go, SHPS!
Thinking of netball for 2025? It’s never too late to start netball, and we would love to have you join one of our teams next year! Check out the clinics that will be pushed out via Compass shortly.
