Dear Parents, Carers, and Friends,
As we enter the final weeks of November, it’s hard to believe how quickly the year has flown. Let’s pause and reflect amidst the busyness, ensuring we conclude the year with gratitude and purpose. This time of year sees much activity, with preparations for a settled end to the school year and the groundwork for an exciting year ahead.
Before we know it, we’ll celebrate Year 6 Graduation, finalise reports, and attend all the special end-of-year events. In just a few weeks, the Christmas holidays will be upon us! Let’s embrace these moments and go gently through this bustling season.
Grandfriends Day – Friday 29th November
We are excited to welcome grandparents and grandfriends to Sacred Heart next Friday for ‘Grand Friends Day’.
The day will begin with our morning assembly at 8:50 am, followed by a whole school Mass in the Church at 9:30 am. After Mass, visitors are invited to explore our open classrooms to see the wonderful work our students have been doing this term.
To conclude the morning, there will be morning tea in the school hall for parents, carers, and our special guests. This is always a fantastic day of connection and celebration within our community. We hope to see you there!
Christmas Carols – Thursday 5th December (6-8pm)
Please save the date for our annual Christmas Carols evening!
Join us on Thursday, December 5th, to celebrate the year with joy and music and enjoy an evening of Christmas Carols, where every child will perform with their class.
This is an evening event at 6 pm in the school hall. The carols will follow (approx. an hour), and then a sausage sizzle and other treats will be available for purchase. Bring a picnic rug, camp chairs, and Santa hats and get into the festive spirit!
This event is only three weeks away, so mark it in your calendar. It promises to be a wonderful way for the community to celebrate the year.
School Security Update
Over the past few weeks, we have experienced some issues with the school grounds over weekends, including broken bottles, netball posts being placed down drains, and damage to our soccer posts. To address these concerns, we now have the capability to secure the perimeter of the school. Starting this weekend, the school grounds will be locked on weekends to ensure the safety and preservation of our facilities. Thank you for your understanding and support as we take steps to protect our school.
Wishing you all a week filled with purpose and moments of calm.
In faith and partnership,
David Austin

As we head towards the end of the year, we remind families to download their school reports off Compass. If you have a child leaving Sacred Heart you will no longer have their profile available come the end of school. A more accurate date for this will be available in the coming weeks.

We are finalising all the accounts from our very successful event. As we do we wish to acknowledge the generous sponsorship of all the families and businesses who supported our stalls. We start this week with the following:
Our Greek Food Stall returned to much applause and sold out on the night! They made over $2000 profit towards our total. Maria and George Frillingos, a school family, gathered many sponsors and helpers for their stall who we wish to thank.
Our plant stall is always a huge crowd favourite, drawing in many neighbours and parishioners far and wide. We have many families (and teachers) who propagate plants for a full 12 months ahead in preparation! The stall made over $350. This year we also wish to thank two sponsors: Rodney’s Plants Plus - Canberra Garden Centre at Pialligo and Bisonhome at Pialligo.
The Community Council met on Wednesday 20 November. The Council thanked the Twilight Fair team for pulling off a fantastic event for the school and noted that funds raised are going towards new literacy resources for K-2 and the fencing upgrade.
David provided a principal's update including growing enrolments and end of year activities. The council discussed the outcomes of the school survey, communication between school and home, and continuing netball into 2025.
The next council meeting will be an AGM in Week 5 of Term 1 2025 to fill positions. Current council members are happy to discuss roles and commitment required with anyone interested. More information will also be in the newsletter in coming weeks. Regardless of whether you have a formal position on the council, all parents and carers are welcome to attend council meetings.
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal
Every year the Sacred Heart community support the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal with donations of food for Christmas Hampers. This year we want to continue to play an important part in renewing hope for the thousands of people who face an uncertain Christmas.
Our appeal collection will run from next week to Friday 6th December (Week 8).
Donations will be collected in classrooms and at the Front Office.
The Stages have been allocated the following items:
Play Group – Spreads, tinned fruit and muesli bars
Kindergarten – sweet biscuits, cereal, long life milk

Year 3 and 4 – Soft drinks, cordials, Christmas puddings
Year 5 and 6 – Dried pasta, pasta sauce, tea and coffee, milo
*Any donations of dry pet food would also be appreciated*
