Dear Parents and Carers,
Week 2 is in full swing, and seeing students settling into their routines with enthusiasm and focus has been great. The classrooms are buzzing with learning, and we are excited for the term ahead. Thank you to all families for your ongoing support in ensuring a smooth start to the school year.
Welcome Breakfast & Meet the Teacher – This Friday
We invite all families to our Welcome Breakfast this Friday at 7:45 am. Enjoy a delicious bacon and egg roll, fresh fruit, and a coffee from our coffee van while catching up with other families and staff members. At 8:30 am, parents are invited to move to classrooms to meet their child’s teacher and see where they will learn this year.
We look forward to seeing many of you there!
Opening School Mass – This Friday at 9:30 am
Our Opening School Mass will take place this Friday at 9:30 am. This is a significant event in our school calendar, where our student leaders will be formally acknowledged and receive their leadership badges. All students will be attending, and we warmly invite parents and families to join us in celebrating the start of the school year together.
Parent-Teacher Interviews – Bookings Now Open
From next week, parents of children in Years 1-6 are encouraged to book a Parent-Teacher Interview to discuss their child’s progress, goals, and aspirations for the year ahead. Bookings can be made via COMPASS under ‘Conferences.’
At Sacred Heart, teachers value creating a positive relationship with you. These meetings help us to know your child and you better and let us know from the beginning of the year what hopes and any concerns you have for your child this year.
Please come ready to share:
- What are your child's strengths and passions?
- Do you have any concerns about their learning or achievements?
- Do you have any concerns about their social skills and development?
- What do you see as goals for the year?
- Any other matter which will help your child's teacher know, challenge and care for your precious child this year?
This is a valuable opportunity to build a strong partnership with your child’s teacher and ensure a positive and successful year of learning.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events!
In faith and partnership,
David Austin

Term 1 Handbook and Overview of Learning
An important document was sent via Compass notification on Tuesday this week. We request parents and carers to please take the time to check you are familiar with all our processes
- We have shared with parents an overview of learning content for the term. If you have a particular skill or knowledge in one of the learning units a class is exploring this term, please reach out. You might bring an amazing addition to a lesson plan.
- We regularly welcome parents, carers and grandparents to help in the classroom. We really need helpers at our events eg: breakfasts and carnivals. We are governed by CECG policies and the ACT WWVP scheme when welcoming adults to help at school to safeguard our vulnerable persons. We have written a guide for parents to summarise the WWVP requirements. It is linked on our website ‘Safeguarding Processes and WWVP at Sacred Heart’. https://shpspearce.schoolzineplus.com/_file/media/7489/safeguarding_and_wwvp.pdf)
- BYOD Apps for Years 3-6. Please see the list of Apps to install on your child’s iPad on p13-14 of the overview document.
Call for helpers
Lost Property. We need a person or two to help us manage the lost property pile. This would involve a short time every week or two spent going through the items, putting aside ones that have current student names and keeping the cupboard tidy.
Container 10c Recycling. We would love a family or two to work with our sustainability students to deliver bags of containers to the recycling centre in Phillip every fortnight.
If either of these tasks sounds like something you could support us with, please contact me.
Yours in working together
Kerry Wode

If you have never signed up before or are unsure what to do, we are happy to help support you, please don't let that stop you from helping us.

Hi everyone,
Hope you’ve had a wonderful start to the year. We have now successfully survived a full week of the 2025 school year!!
It’s this time of year that the school needs volunteers as a class parent representative for every class. In a nutshell, the class parent rep:
- Is a contact person for other parents to ask questions.
- Share school reminders to the class that the coordinator sends out through a separate what’s app group.
- Can organise a park play date for the families to meet each other.
- Help to welcome new families to the school.
- Create a what’s app group for the class. This helps families to clarify anything their child says. For example “My child says they don’t need to bring in library bags - Do the kids still need to bring in their library bags?” “ Yes.”
- The parent rep coordinator will be attached to your group chat and will be able to help if you need it.
If this is something that you’re interested in, please send me an email with your child’s name, class and your details. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me. My email is Vanessa.miller@cg.catholic.edu.au
Thanks,
Vanessa Miller
