K-6 Complete Survey
Sacred Heart is a co-ed school from K-6. In recent years the number of boys remaining in the senior years has been of concern. ‘K-6 Complete’ is our strategy to open a conversation and highlight the advantages to girls and boys of completing their entire primary education at Sacred Heart. Please join in the conversation by completing the survey below and attending the Community Council Sub-Commitee parent forum on Thursday 24th October at 6pm.
Grandparent Days
Grandparents Day notes were sent home with all eldest children. Please return the Grandparents notes by this Friday 18th October 2019.
Welcome back everyone. It is wonderful to be back at school. I have very much enjoyed catching up with staff, children and parents this week. I extend a huge thank you to Mrs Wode, the leadership team and staff for taking on extra responsibilities and making my leave possible.
October the Month of the Rosary
The month of October each year is a time identified by the Church as a time to celebrate and pray the Rosary. This is primarily due to the fact that the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated on October 7. It was instituted to honour the Blessed Virgin Mary in gratitude for the protection that she gives the Church.
Legend tells us that the Rosary as a form of prayer was given to St. Dominic (1170-1221) by Mary, the Mother of Our Lord.
In the Middle Ages it came into being in various medieval monasteries as a substitute for the Divine Office for the lay monks and devout lay persons who did not know how to read. Instead of the 150 psalms, they would pray 150 "Our Fathers" counting them on a ring of beads known as the crown or "corona." With the growth of popularity of Marian devotion in the twelfth century, the "Psalter of the Blessed Virgin Mary" developed now substituting 150 "Hail Marys" in place of the "Our Fathers."
The 150 "Hail Marys" were subsequently subdivided into fifteen decades by the young Dominican friar, Henry Kalkar (1328-1408), with each decade referring to an event in the life of Jesus and Mary. The Dominican, Alanus de Rupe (1428-1478) further divided the episodes in the history of salvation into the joyful, sorrowful and glorious mysteries. He also attributed the origin of the Rosary, then known as the "Psalter of the Blessed Virgin".
As I was growing up the Rosary was a prayer devotion used by many Australian families.
October is also Mission Month and this year the Missions have incorporated a focus on the Rosary. The school, as always will be celebrating these events in the Church's liturgical year.
Yours faithfully,

Fete Writing Books
We have a number of copies of our wonderful Fete Books left, full of writing from every child. If you missed purchasing a copy they are available for purchase from the office for $20.
With thanks to Suzy Nunes, a copy of each book has been lodged with the ACT Heritage Library. Future generations will be able to view the amazing work of students from Sacred Heart 2019!
K-6 Complete Parent Forum
All families, including Kinder 2020, are invited to join our parent forum on Thursday 24th October at 6pm. Babysitting is provided – please let the office know if you need this service.
We will be discussing opportunities around promoting Sacred Heart as a co-educational school for the complete journey from Kindergarten to Year 6. This is a Community Council event, which will use your ideas, feedback and questions from the K-6 Complete survey. The survey remains open until Friday and the questions are on the front letter so you can read them before you need to answer. Here is the link to the K-6 Complete Survey.
Creative Play Space
If parents have a great idea for things to include in this space, please contact Kerry Wode. We would like some large screws, nuts and bolts. Also short pieces of clean plumbing pipes, elbows and joiners. Do you have these type of ‘bits’ leftover somewhere in your shed?
Yours Faithfully
