Dear Parents and Carers,
We enjoyed a very exciting week as we celebrated the Anniversary of SHPS’s official blessing and opening on Sunday 16 August 1970. We began our week with the fabulous 'back to the 70s' dress up, disco and Satellite Selfie. The Stage 3 students had researched and set up a journey through the decades for all students to enjoy each day last week.
We extend a huge thank you to Mrs Wode for all her work in organising and preparing for the Satellite Selfie. We also need to thank Mrs Imbriano who coordinated the remainder of days activities. We thank you the parents for organising your children’s dress ups.
Tennis Clinic
Students in Kindergarten and Stage 1 have enjoyed six weeks of tennis. We thank Mr Mitchell for organising this fabulous opportunity for our students. On Tuesday each Kindergarten student received a tennis racket.
Dance
This week students from Kindergarten to Year 6 began the 2020 dance program with Mrs Jan Simpson.
SABBATH / Literacy / Numeracy Week
Next week we celebrate our SABBATH week for Term 3. During this week we encourage families to enjoy some extra family time instead of the usual homework routine. Given that SABBATH week coincides with literacy/numeracy week and while the weather is still a bit chilly in the evenings, you could bring out some of those fun family games with a literacy or numeracy base. Maybe share a favourite book from your childhood with your child/ren.
With your help we would love to create a SHPS list of top 50 books to read for children and young people. Please send in your family choice and we will publish a list to share with the community.
Father’s Day
We will celebrate Father’s day quietly this year, similar to Mother’s day, due to the current stage of COVID-19 restrictions. Children are busy creating portraits of the special men in their lives, which are sure to be highly valued in the years to come. Think early Vincent van Gogh!
We are hoping to use our Grandparent’s day celebrations to celebrate FAMILIES in a much more special way. Stay tuned for details.
Take care and God bless,
Uniform Reminder
With just four weeks of Term 3 left, it is time to start thinking about summer uniform. We have noticed a number of non-uniform items being worn with the winter school and in particular with the sport uniform. We acknowledge the difficulty this year in getting out to the shops to purchase items.
If you need to buy summer items from our clothing pool, please book in an appointment time through the office. See available times in the reminders below. For other items please plan ahead for purchases, so that every child starts Term 4 with the correct items for summer school and sport uniform. Please refer to the Uniform Policy on our website for all details, including acceptable jewelry, hair and accessories.
ICAS – UNSW optional tests for students Yr2-6
Due to COVID-19 disruptions, UNSW has created two opportunities to complete the tests. Sacred Heart will participate in the second session, between 12-23 October. Due to the changes, enrolment will be via the school this year (it was fully online last year) and writing is no longer one of the skills tested.
For families interested in their child undertaking the ICAS assessments, please discuss this with your child, and have them collect the information and registrations forms from Mrs Wode early next week when they are called.
Kerry Wode and Aaron Fox will be coordinating these tests this year.
Photography and Child Safety
We would like to remind all families that photographing and videoing children at school can be a breach of our child safety requirements. We endeavour to share with you, through the newsletter and facebook a variety of activities and faces. These are always carefully screened to ensure names are not attached and are in respect of the media permissions in place for each child.
As such we ask that parents do not capture images of children at school without explicit permission from us. At larger events, where permission is granted, only take photos of your own child(ren), and always consider your family's digital footprint before posting any photo to social media.
With the students in Years 3-6 having ready access to cameras on their devices, teachers and parents need to educate each child to never post images of other students online and to protect their own digital footprint.
Parents and guardians can update their child’s media permissions with the office at any time. Original permissions were set when you completed enrolment forms.
Yours faithfully,

Tennis
ANZ Hot Shots tennis racket give away winners!
Earlier this term, Sacred Heart were successful in securing free tennis rackets for every Kindergarten student through a draw that ANZ and Tennis Australia run each year.
On Tuesday a representative from ACT Tennis and two local representatives from ANZ came out to hand out the rackets to our excited Kinders. They then tested their skills as a part of the tennis clinics run by Rising Star Tennis Academy, that all Kinder and Stage 1 students have been participating in each week this term.
We thank ACT Tennis, Tennis Australia and ANZ for their continued support in helping us deliver quality tennis lessons and in helping provide equipment to continue to foster the love of tennis in the students of Sacred Heart.
Mr Mitchell
