NAIDOC WEEK in the Library
To celebrate NAIDOC Week, the students in K – 2 spent their library lesson this week in the School’s Indigenous garden. We read The Amazing A to Z Thing written by Indigenous Authors Sally Morgan and Bronwyn Bancroft. The students then went on a natural materials treasure hunt and created natural sculptures, inspired by Australian Animals and Aboriginal X-ray paintings.
Kinder Red were treated to an extra surprise by finding a large stick insect camouflaged in the garden. There were many excited squeals with lots of I wonder questions that followed.
Year 3 – 6 also spent their library lesson in the Indigenous Garden reading the book Alfred’s War by Rachel Bin Salleh which lead to a discussion about the contribution and sacrifice that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander veterans made to Australia’s war effort.
