Canberra Day Holiday
This weekend we celebrate our beautiful city's 108th birthday. Enjoy your holiday Monday and be safe if travelling.
200 Years of Catholic Education in the Archdiocese
Mrs Imbriano, myself and two of our year 5 students (Leila W and Olivia G) had the pleasure of attending the Mass to celebrate 200 Years of Catholic Education last Wednesday morning. I was able to reflect on my association with Catholic Education and the important role it played in my life and many thousands of children. It was a beautiful celebration.
As we take our Lenten Journey
Two interesting ideas for ways in which your family could continue to actively participate in the Lenten Journey from last weeks Catholic voice.
Serve 40 ways in 40 days.
Get creative about ways in which you can help those who you interact with every day. This could be as simple as helping mum bring the shopping bags in from the car after a shopping trip, or volunteering to take the rubbish out, or even just cleaning up a room in the house without bragging about it. Doing it secretly makes it more fun, anyway!
Practise Being Present.
This one applies especially to older kids and young teens. Commit to putting down your phones (or other electronic device) whenever someone is present with them. Even better, create phone-free zones around the house, like the dinner table or living rooms. Learn to spend good quality time with those around you.
Principal’s Retreat
I headed off to the Catholic Leader's Day and Principal’s Retreat on Tuesday afternoon. I look forward to the professional dialogue with colleagues on Wednesday and the days of reflection and prayer on Thursday and Friday.
Please keep us in your prayers.
Take care and God bless,
Student Safety
Teacher supervision is between 8.30am and 3.30pm. If your child is on school grounds outside of these times they are not being supervised.
Please make use of Before and After School Care through YMCA if you need care outside of school supervision hours. https://canberra.ymca.org.au/what-we-do/outside-school-hours/
We have spoken to all children this week, reminding them that they need to wait with a teacher on duty after school if they are waiting for a caregiver to pick them up. They are not to wait at any exit other than where teachers are on duty. Any child not picked up by 3.30pm will be brought to the office by the teacher.
Emergency Drills
We would like to advise families that we will be holding our Evacuation Drill during Week 6 and a Lockdown Drill during Week 7. Teachers will speak to the children before these, so children are prepared for the movement and bells.
Uniform Policy
Thankyou parents and carers for the great way most of the children are presenting in school uniform daily.
Just a reminder that students do not wear nail polish and jewellery is minimal. Please note also that school and sports pants, skorts and shorts are navy in colour, not black. Please see the details in our Uniform Policy, found on the school website.
As school photos are the first day of Term 2 (Tuesday 20th April) we will extend summer uniform for Week 1. Students wear winter uniform from Week 2, 26th April.
Term 1 Reports and Parent/Teacher interviews
Term 1 Interim Reports will be sent home with students on Monday 15th March. Parent/Teacher interviews will follow in the week beginning 22nd March. Information about the interviews will be posted with the report. The interviews can be face-to-face with the teacher(s) or via ZOOM.

Harmony Week 15-19th March
During Week 7 we invite families to contribute to our Harmony Week activities.
- Come into class and teach the students a song, dance or game which your family enjoys from your cultural heritage. Or maybe your child is confident enough to share it with their class!
- Share with the teacher a piece of music/song which has cultural significance for your family. A photo of your family gathering is welcome too.
On Monday 15th March every child is invited to wear an item of orange clothing or an accessory to symbolise living in harmony in our multi-cultural Australia. If your child has clothing that reflects your family’s cultural heritage, we invite them to wear it for the day. Families can join our outdoor morning assembly at 9am.
Yours faithfully,

Researchers
‘When I am researching, I might ask rich questions (a skill), but without curiosity to want to find out, courage to go beyond the known and an attitude to critique the information gathered, then the skill is of little real value. (K. Murdoch ‘Power of Inquiry’ p97)
Researchers formulate questions and locate and use a wide range of sources and techniques to investigate problems, interests, and issues. They think critically about the information they gather and are careful to acknowledge their sources. Examples of times when we may teach the assets of being a researcher may include:
Deciding what we want to find out
Using our senses to find out about something
Coming up with ideas for how to find out answers to our questions
Using the internet safely
Using pictures or photos to get information
Citing the sources of information we gather in appropriate ways
Recording the information we gather in efficient and effective ways
Kinder and Stage 1 will usually only explore being ‘Curious’. Stage 2 and 3 will develop language about all three – Curious, Courageous, Critical.
