Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you have been able to enjoy our SABBATH Week and have managed to fit in time to do something together as a family without the pressure of homework.
Athletics and Swimming Carnival
A huge thank you to Mr Mitchell and Mrs Stumbles for organising our first two major carnivals over the last few weeks. We send a message of thanks and gratitude to all our volunteers who helped on the day. As well as being successful sporting events for the students they were fabulous community events.
We look forward to seeing you at the Cross Country to be held on the 23 April, the first Friday of Term 2. Please refer to the note sent out this week for details.
Harmony Week at SHPS
This week of celebrating diversity has been very busy. Thank you to all those families who were able to dress their children to celebrate their cultural background or found something orange to support Harmony in the world. Our thanks to Mrs Wode for organising this event.
St Patrick and St Joseph
We also recognised the Feasts of St Patrick and St Joseph this week. We saw a great deal of green on Wednesday as we celebrated the Patron Saint of Ireland. On Friday we will celebrate St Joseph as we join the Church in honoring the year of St Joseph. Father Richard has placed a beautiful banner in the Church depicting one the icons.
Pupil Free Day
Monday 19th April will be a pupil free day for all school in the Archdiocese of Canberra Goulburn as part of the CATALYST program. This is to give staff time to be engaged in professional learning to implement system wide approaches for improving outcomes for students in literacy and numeracy across all schools. This professional learning will continue the journey we began in January during stand down time.
Please remember SCHOOL PHOTOS Tuesday 20th April.
CLOSE the GAP Day 18 March
Australia's peak Indigenous and non-Indigenous health bodies, NGOs and human rights organisations are working together to achieve equality in health and life expectancy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The Close the Gap Campaign aims to close the health and life expectancy gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians within a generation. The campaign is built on evidence that shows significant improvements in the health status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can be achieved by 2030.
A day to become aware of what is being done and a time to show support for this important campaign.
Take care and God bless,

The Year 6 students participated in a two day program last week to become Peer Support Leaders. They engaged in many activities to improve their skills in leadership, listening, giving instructions and planning. The Peer Support program develops a supportive environment that fosters students relationships across the whole school. The Year 6 students will lead small groups when the Peer Support program begins next term.
WALK IN THE SPIRIT 2021 LENTEN RENEWAL EXPERIENCE
‘If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit’ – Gal. 5.25
“I would like to invite everybody to join in this unique Lenten Renewal experience. Meeting over six times, livestreamed on Thursday evenings, we will open our hearts like never before to the release of the Holy Spirit deep within our lives. As people of faith we are all beginners. No one can say that they have advanced so much in their Spiritual life that they cannot open their lives afresh to the Holy Spirit.“
– Archbishop Christopher Prowse, Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn

National Ride 2 School Week School Ride Morning
This week is Ride to School Week and we are encouraging all students as well as parents and carers to get as involved as they can on Friday morning. This initiative is led by the Physical Activity Foundation (PAF) and is partnered by many community organisations. It is a great community event that helps promote healthy lifestyles.
On Friday we will have teachers stationed at several locations (see the map attached to the bike cage for details) to ride into school in groups.
We will be meeting from 8:20am onwards and we will start riding to school from 8:30am.
When students arrive there will be fresh fruit provided and some party tunes to welcome us to school. All participating students will go in the draw to win some cool prizes that afternoon.
Can’t wait to see everyone riding into school on Friday morning!

Collaborators
Collaborators can work with others on shared goals, questions and challenges. They know how to be a constructive part of a team, to use different roles for different tasks and to actively listen to and respect other people’s views. They understand how their behaviour affects others.(K. Murdoch ‘Power of Inquiry’ p98)
Collaborators can talk about how we work together and plan for working in different ways with different people. Examples of times when we may teach the assets of being a collaborator may include:
- Think and talk about our feelings with others
- Talk about how we can play and learn together
- Look after and share materials with others
- Show others we are listening to them
- Do different jobs when you are in a group
- Use words to solve problem
- Manage time and stay organised as a team
- Understand and respect other points of view
- Compromise and negotiate when we don’t get our way
Kinder and Stage 1 will usually only explore being ‘Compassionate’. Stage 2 and 3 will develop language about all three – Compassionate, Empathic and Reliable.
Sport Days
There have been changes made due to the Gymnastics program.
Kindergarten- Wednesday and Friday
Stage One-Wednesday and Friday
Stage Two-Tuesday and Thursday
Stage Three- Tuesday and Thursday
We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through your prayer, fasting and almsgiving by supporting Project Compassion. Each family should have received a Project Compassion box for their donations. These may be returned to school at any time until the end of term.
Saint Oscar Romero is our inspiration for Project Compassion 2021, so in his words let’s “Aspire not to have more, but to be more.”

Easter Raffle
Over the last couple of years, we have held an Easter raffle. It has been very successful in the past where we have had over 35 baskets up for prizes! It has brought so much joy to our children and families, so we have decided to do it again!
We will draw the tickets at the afternoon assembly on the 26th March, the week before Easter and Term 1 ends.
What do you need to do:-
We are asking every family to donate an egg/or eggs, or anything that resembles Easter to you (colouring books, stickers) so that we can put together lots of baskets for prizes. The more goodies we get, the more prizes there will be for the children to win!
Please start bringing items to the front office up until the 22nd March.
Baskets will be placed at the front office for collections.
We will be sending raffle tickets home to each household for purchase of $1 per ticket. (There is a separate note attached to the tickets for further information.) Please return the tickets to school with the correct money and tickets completed.
Tickets can be sold up until the 25th March.
If you would like to purchase more than the 10 provided, please contact the front office for more. All the money we raise will go towards new school equipment and upgrading play spaces.
It is an exciting, fun time for the children in our community.
