First Sunday of Advent this weekend
As we begin the Season of Advent we acknowledge our need for deep inner listening as Daly River Elder Dr Miriam Rose Ungunmerr-Baumann (Senior Australian of the Year 2021) teaches us:
Dadirri recognises the deep spring that is inside us. We call on it and it calls to us… When I experience dadirri, I am made whole again… I can find my peace in this silent awareness. There is no need of words. A big part of dadirri is listening. Read more -https://www.creativespirits.info/aboriginalculture/education/deep-listening-dadirri
The function of Advent is to remind us of what we’re waiting for as we go through life, too busy with things that do not matter to remember things that do. (Chittister, J. The Liturgical Year, 2009. pp.58-75).
Advent invites us to pause, reflect and listen; to take stock of our lives and to prepare ourselves for the joy of Christmas.
Parent Teacher Interviews and Reports
Thank you to all parents who have been able to make the time to speak to their child/ren’s classroom teacher/s. In this year of great disruption, it has been more important than ever to have these conversations about your child/ren’s progress. Modified reports will be available through the COMPASS portal from the evening of Monday 6th of December.
Due to the unusual circumstances, SHPS reports will show grading in Religious Education, English and Mathematics only. Please note there will also be no teacher comments on the report this semester. We feel that the compulsory Parent-Teacher interview is considerably more helpful for sharing learning achievements and setting goals for the coming year for your child at this time.
Class Placement Considerations for 2021
Please ensure you have sent through to Mrs Anne Staines any considerations regarding placement of children for 2022 by 5.00pm on Monday 29th November. It is important to remind us of any historical, academic, social or new considerations – this does include children having had the same classroom teacher for two years.
Car Family Name
Just a reminder to please display your family name as you come through the afternoon driveway pickup. This will help to speed up the pickup process as it is hard to see faces through the tinted glass.
Notes
Over the remainder of the school year, please check your child/ren's bags for any notes that have been sent out and to also keep check on Szapp for any important information that might be relevant to your family.
Take care and keep safe

Offering vacation care is important to our community. The future offerings of our YMCA VAC program will depend on the utilisation of these services over the upcoming summer period. Due to this we are hoping that parents can get the word out regarding this service, to as many people as possible! Please pass on the booking link and the pdf of this year’s schedule to friends who are looking for vacation care during January.
