Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope that everyone was able to take advantage of the beautiful autumn weather we experienced over the holidays and Easter. The staff were very grateful for the opportunity to participate in Professional Learning on Tuesday. The focus for the day was Catalyst, the system initiative to support students in their learning. We spent time deepening our understanding of how children learn to read and write and planning for how we will adopt and adapt what we do in the classroom. We also planned and discussed the High Impact Teaching Practice of Daily Review in Mathematics and how we will further imbed this at SHPS. 

PUPIL FREE DAYS TERM 2

Schools in the ACT have been granted two extra pupil free days in Term 2 to support staff with the impact of teacher shortages and the extra workload this has placed on all staff in all schools.

In order to help families plan ahead, we are communicating now the days we have chosen for our pupil free days during Term 2 at Sacred Heart.

Tuesday 31st May and Friday 1 July

We thought attaching them to the long weekend and the July school holidays may assist families.

As you are aware Mrs Shari Cooper has been on sick leave during Term 1. Shari will be taking further leave as she begins treatment following her surgery for breast cancer. We know that you will keep her in your prayers as navigates the journey ahead.

Take care and keep safe

• Please send a water bottle to school each day with your child. Our school bubblers are still closed due to COVID-19. 
• Caritas donations are now due back at school

• Our Parish Sacrament of Confirmation programme Presentation Masses will be held during all weekend masses on 30 Apr and 1 May for all enroled families. 
• Please join us for Monthly Morning Tea in the Parish Hall following both masses this Sunday, 1 May.
• Our Parish Sacrament of Confirmation programme Session 1 will be held on 4 May at 6.30pm in the Church.

First Holy Communion

Congratulations to the children who made their First Holy Communion at the end of last term.

Anzac Day 

We commemorated ANZAC day at Sacred Heart on Wednesday. Our faith leaders led a beautiful service in the hall for all the students. Classes inquired into the history and importance of ANZAC day and the many ways Australians have worked over the years to defend and support our country and the world. Kindergarten explored the items in the War Memorial ANZAC box and visited our Parish Gathering Space to see the flagpole and take away a piece of rosemary.
