This Sunday is the Fourth Week of Lent
This week the readings speak of Christ as our guide, our shepherd and our light. He is the one who leads and nurtures us and who heals the darkness of our lives.
God of Love,
Open my eyes to see with the eyes of love.
Help me to follow you wholeheartedly.
Send your compassionate spirit to those who are affected by the darkness and violence of others.
I know that you know me in the deepest parts of my spirit. Send your healing light to shine in these parts of my life (pause and name anything that may need to be healed).
I have faith that you will always be with me.
Be my shepherd and my guide in the joys and in the dark times.
I make this prayer through Jesus the Light of the World.
Amen
Congratulations to the new Mrs Meg Baldry.
We congratulate Meg and Teague on their wedding last Saturday. On behalf of our Sacred Heart community, we share this blessing for your life together.
Congratulations to Ms Filardo
Congratulations to Ms Filardo on the safe arrival of her son Roman on Wednesday 15th March. We wish Jo and Josh every blessing at this time of great joy for their family.
Take care and keep safe
Harmony Week Activities
Between 21-25 March we celebrate Harmony Week in Australia. Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Sacred Heart is pleased to host our annual celebration on Thursday 23rd with everyone invited to wear something special to school. It might be an item representing your family’s cultural heritage or an item of orange clothing to recognise ‘we all belong’.
Teachers and students are invited to share their different backgrounds. Teachers may send home an activity sheet for your family to complete in order to help your child share what part of the world is in your family history.
If you have an activity you would like to share with your child’s class eg: a book to read, artefact to share, art or song to do together, please contact your class teacher.
In the spirit of Harmony Day, I wish you a happy St Patrick’s day for Friday 17th March and share this Irish blessing with you.
May you have love that never ends,
Lots of money, and lots of friends.
Health be yours, whatever you do,
And may God send many blessings to you!
Mrs Wode (nee Miss O’Connell - The Irish connection!)
NAPLAN
Our first NAPLAN tests have gone very smoothly. Thanks to the teachers, students and parents who helped the children know about the tests and prepare the technology.
NAPLAN continues next week with the Conventions of Language on Monday and Numeracy on Tuesday. Please continue to assist us with the calm testing times by ensuring your child arrives at school before the bell.
Yours faithfully,

Swimming Carnival - Wednesday 22nd March, Stromlo
Cross Country - Term 2, Week 1, Friday 28th April, On site at school.
As with any community events, we always need help to run these, so if you could spare a few hours with any of these events, it would be greatly appreciated.
All permission notes and information regarding these events will be sent out through the COMPASS App.
Swimming Carnival
Thank you for submitting the consent for the carnival. We again appreciate your patience with the kinks in the system. If you still haven't completed it yet, please do so ASAP.
Just for your information, We will run the 50m events in the morning and the 25m races will be after lunch, which is about 12. The novelty events will run throughout the day.
Please ensure your child knows exactly what you have nominated them to do, this prevents any confusion on the day.
Please note: we can always withdraw your child from a race should they not want to compete, but we will not be able to enter them into a race on the day.
We are really looking forward to our day.
Tennis
We are looking at running the clinics again through Rising Star Tennis Academy for term 2. The kindergarten group will again run at lunch time. We are also thinking that we could run the older age group at lunch time too, they will get about a 50min class. We thought this might be a better option as we move into the colder months.
If this is something that will interest your child, keep an eye out in the coming weeks for registration.
National Ride and Walk to School Day
On Friday 24th March, it is National Ride and Walk to school day. Students will be able to meet teachers at different points around our suburb. Please see the below map. This is a great way for students who may want to ride or walk to find other children who live near them to join a group to come safely to school.
On the day when students arrive at school there will be music, fruit and raffle tickets for them to enter a draw to win some prizes.
Congratulations
Our former student Olivia Galang was nominated for 2 ACT School Sport awards. Olivia has had an amazing 12 months, representing the ACT in Athletics, Cross Country and Touch Football. She has also been selected to represent the ACT in athletics in the coming months. We are proud of her achievements. Below is a photo of her at the awards ceremony.
