Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you once again for your support as we walk together in managing this difficult time of uncertainty. We are truly blessed to belong to such a beautiful community. The staff are truly grateful for the good wishes and thanks that have been sent to them as we begin this new regime of delivering quality teaching and learning for our students.
In these times let us remember the words of Julian of Norwich,
‘All shall be well, all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well’
Father Richard has provided the following to help us in nurturing our spiritual needs during this time.
A SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYER
Dear Lord,
I believe in the presence of Your Body and Blood
in the Eucharistic celebration of the Last Supper.
Since I cannot receive You Sacramentally,
I embrace You Spiritually into my heart.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
My Lord and my God.
Amen.
Daily Mass is offered at http://www.catholicvoice.org.au
Interim Reports will be sent home tomorrow with the remote learning packs.
As you are aware, we have aligned the Sacred Heart Interim Report to the Inquiry skills - Assets for life-long learning. Staff and students are using this language to describe the intent and develop skills as a researcher, thinker, communicator, self-manager and collaborator.
To further support your understanding of the report, Mrs Wode has been including a description of each ASSESTS for life – long learning in our Term One newsletters.
Reports indicate where your child’s strengths and areas for growth are currently. We would encourage you to support your child in areas for growth and celebrate their areas of strength. We do not expect every child will be achieving in every skill at this stage of the year.
Learning Over the Next 2 Weeks Remote and in School
We ask for your continued patience as this new approach to teaching and learning is rolled out at SHPS. Staff will be working on planning and testing online systems should this continue into next term, as well as checking in on children’s learning.
If you wish to be in touch with a teacher over the next 2 weeks, we ask that you send through an email to the front office. This email will be then forwarded to staff or responded to as needed. There will be a response within 24 hours if sent during school hours.
Please be aware of copyright for resources and therefore things that have been prepared for your children should not be shared with others.
- Remote learning packages will be ready for pick up tomorrow as per Tuesday’s communication. Please maintain social-distancing restrictions and follow directions to enter the hall.
- An electronic copy of the Remote Learning Grid for each stage will be sent home to all families. This will ensure every family knows about the learning happening for all, at home and school.
- Please be assured that if your child is at school, your children will be completing the same work as those who are remote.
- Please note that the children who will be at school some days only will need to transport their packs between the 2 learning spaces.
- If your child/ren are learning at school and things change, please let us know so that their pack can be sent home on the day.
REMOTE LEARNING SURVEY
Please note that the children who will be at school some days will need to transport their packs between the 2 learning spaces.
Helpful hints for working with your child at home
- Have a defined learning space set up. Preferably where they can be supervised as children will be online at times.
- Create a timetable that is flexible for your family. It should include time away from sitting and screen. See the guidelines on the front page of the Remote Learning Pack being sent home tomorrow.
- Packing lunches and snacks as you would normally (even for yourself if working from home) may also be helpful.
Hint: for a method for sending multiple samples of work back to your child’s teacher.
Families with an iPhone or iPad you actually have a scanner! If you are planning to scan any work to your teachers you can use the ‘Notes App’.
- Open a new note, press the camera button, the option to scan document will pop up.
- Once the document is scanned you can email it with less band width than a photo.
A message from the Learning Support and EALD Teams
Our teams are working closely with teachers to ensure that activities being planned for Remote Learning are supportive of students with known learning challenges. The adjustments will be individualised for your child as needed.
Please look at the materials in your child’s Remote Learning pack. Some adjustments and additional items may already be there. The team will be contacting families over the next few school days to check in with you, answer questions and respond to the learning needs you require further support with.
If you are needing support to access the communications we are sending out, please contact the front office. An example may be to send items in a different format, that might enable families to access Google Translate.
We are here to support your families at this time. Please let us know if you need help in any way.
UNSW ICAS Testing
The ICAS testing will be offered again this year. It will now be mostly online, including parent registration for the test sessions. Kerry Wode will call for registrations at the end of Term 2 for these optional enrichment tests. Families can choose to enrol their child in one or more of the Writing, Science, Digital Technologies, English, Maths and Spelling tests. The test period is during August.
Yours faithfully,
Kerry Wode
Assistant Principal

In light of the revised Archdiocesan Protocol for COVIC-19 (Coronavirus) Sacred Heart Church has cancelled all the scheduled Sacramental Programs at this time. It was not an easy decision but our top priority is keeping our parishioners, families and children safe. We are not calling for enrolments for the Sacrament of Confirmation just yet, however we will let families and schools know as soon as we have more information on when we can reschedule. We look forward to seeing you and celebrating together when this time comes.
Community Council Connections
What a strange world we find ourselves in right now! Our community is strong, and while we are physically distancing, we must remember to stay socially connected. The mix of school and home learning environments will provide challenges and opportunities. This is a time to reach out and support each other, whether it's understanding Maths, literacy game ideas to keep entertained, or practical steps to keep us all sane when at home. As a Community Council we will continue to work with the School Executive on providing another link between our families and the school.
This week the Council Executive met to discuss plans in the current climate. While it’s no surprise our meeting was dominated by Covid-19 impacts, there was a sense that this will pass and we will find time to celebrate appropriately as a community when the time is right. I want to thank our various sub-committees for all their preparations for this year. While our event calendar changes, our intent to stay connected continues.
Look to our Facebook channels to ask, exchange, share and support ideas for making this home time as fun and engaging as possible. It’s great to see resources being shared in our Parents and Carers Facebook group. This is a private group for our school community, a place to engage with fellow parents and carers.
We are all in this together! Let’s keep our wellbeing as a community at the forefront of our connection.

Farewell to Fr. Adrian
The staff and students at Sacred Heart bid farewell to Fr. Adrian at a recent school assembly. Each class made him a special card to thank him for all his efforts over the last few years. We truly appreciate his kind words, happy disposition and the spiritual guidance he has given to our community. We wish him well at St. Patrick’s Parish, Cooma.
Inspirational Art
Students in Stage 3 created some truly amazing artworks using their excursion to the National Gallery of Australia as their inspiration.
Stage 2 and Stage 3 students participated in Oztag clinics over the last few weeks. They thoroughly enjoyed learning the skills of passing, catching, tagging and dodging. Oztag is a game that can be played by boys, girls or mixed teams of athletic abilities.
